The Liquid Paper Incident

June 30, 2022

Yesterday, I crossed something off my bucket list. Well, sort of.

Running on four hours of sleep, cheap coffee, and crazed first-timer jitters, I, together with my colleague Benj, hosted our company’s monthly vodcast.

For those unaware, I initially wrote “Communication Arts” on my UST application, but had to liquid-paper it off after being quizzed, “Ah, so gusto mo baleng humarap sa camera tapos magre-report ka?”

And then it hit me like a news flash. Being an introvert, that’s the last thing I wanted. You can make me dance in an amphitheater in front of a crowd, but publicly speaking and ad-libing the shit out of a script? That’s just not me. So I told myself: “Journalism it is! That’s where I can put my communication skills (i.e., writing) to good use. Plus, there’s no math!” (Plot twist: there’s math in Journ.)

Guess life has a funny way of creeping up on you because, after that liquid-paper incident 20 years ago, there I was—nakaharap sa camera, ad-libing the shit out of a script.
